Dive into the world of coding with RoboThink's Introduction to Coding and AI ThinkLab!

The older kids will be guided through 3 levels of coding lessons:

Level 1: Students will start by understanding coding as instructions for computers and delve into block-based coding, exploring its advantages in the RoCode environment. Students will grasp the concept of objects and events, learning to program objects for different event types and create conditional statements for decision-making. Animation and object shape manipulation will be covered to enhance project visuals, and students will also work with textboxes and master object layering. Signals will introduce the ability to make objects respond to specific messages, and modifying object attributes like size, color, and shape adds visual appeal.

In building video games, students will add sounds and implement timers in projects, incorporate externally downloaded images as objects, and learn to clone objects. They will discover how to detect object collisions for interactive projects, explore the concept of scenes and scene switching, control object visibility based on conditions, and get introduced to variables for data storage and manipulation, building a strong foundation in programming concepts.

Level 2: In Level 2, students will dive into the world of coding and digital creativity. They'll start with text-based coding and establish a solid foundation in variables, mastering various operators for calculations. As their skills progress, they will use brushes and loops to create unique art patterns and experiment with stamping techniques to craft intricate designs. Students will then develop a paint editor app, similar to PC-based software, to showcase their coding abilities. They'll also learn to create chatbot and quiz apps for user interaction, explore animation through flipbooks and games, and master various loop like while loop, for loop, while NOT loop and nested loops to design captivating patterns, providing them with a well-rounded education in coding and digital artistry.

Level 3: In level 3 lessons, students will build a strong foundation in loops, mastering while loops, for loops, while NOT loops, and nested loops to create square and diamond patterns. Their capstone project will be an engaging Water Cycle app that blends science and coding. They'll then dive into strings, mastering string manipulation and character retrieval. Students will also explore functions, using them to create digital art and musical beats. As they progress, they'll work with lists, learning to create, modify, and manipulate them, preparing to develop real-time games by combining all these coding concepts. These lessons will expand their coding skills and creativity. The real-time games, including popular titles such as a snake game similar to the classic mobile app version. They will also develop a username generator game, providing dummy usernames to safeguard identity and data. Memory games will challenge users with changing color sequences, while a forest management app will emphasize the significance of trees. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to design other real-time games like Whack-a-Mole, Ping Pong, Falling Stars, Hungry Fish, Pac-Man, and Tic-Tac-Toe, further enhancing their coding and game development expertise.

This engaging curriculum is designed to introduce coding in a context that is both fun and educational, emphasizing real-world applications of AI technology and encouraging a deep understanding of how software interacts with user inputs.

No prior coding experience required, but basic computer skills are essential.
